August's Meeting is the Second Tuesday this Month

CarolAnn Garratt is a 3100 hour pilot who started flying in high school and soloed in a Citabria in 1972. She and her family are from England where she was born and raised.  Her dad’s job took them to the US in 1964 and they settled on the east coast, near Philadelphia.

She didn't fly much during her "workaholic" days while climbing the corporate ladder.  She worked for a multi-national and spent 8 years in France during the late 1980’s.  After losing her job in 2001 she flew Young Eagles and Angel Flights, and obtained her CFI and CFII. Carol Ann flew across the US to Colorado in 2000 and to Alaska in 2001.

CarolAnn planned an Around the World Adventure in 2002 and had the fun of making it a reality in 2003, flying Young Eagles in various countries during her journey. She is only the 7th woman to make such a trip, and it was the 113th flight of this type. CarolAnn dedicated the trip to her mother, Marie, who died of ALS/MND/Lou Gehrig’s disease, and one of her objectives was to increase awareness of this devastating disease and to raise donations for research.  So far, she has succeeded in raising over $110,000.  100% of all donations go directly to researching a cure for this disease.

She has written a book about her adventure, titled Upon Silver Wings, which is dedicated to her mother, and 100% of all revenue goes directly to the ALS Therapy Development Institute. More details about the flight are available on her website, www.alsworldflight.com.

“Dash for a Cure,” the next world trip, is scheduled for December 2008.  This will be a world record attempt; around the world in 7 days.

Not content to just fly, CarolAnn built her first plane in 2006. Today she owns and flies three different aircraft.

Note: The August meeting will be on the 12th to accommodate the speaker's schedule.

A Great Little Fly-In

When: August 30 & 31
Where: 19231 WCR 22, Fort Lupton, CO
Contacts: Mike Markham, 303.536.9272
  Tom Nichols, 970.302.2847

This one is out on a farm and these folks know how to put one on. If you cant make the whole fly-in at least try to make it Saturday (for the pig roast). I recommend it highly. The planes that have attended in the past go from ultralights, powered parachutes, Piper Cubs, Champs, Huskies etc. There is lots of room there. Please come and visit.
