May's MeetingWhen Dick Rutan and Jeanna Yeager flew around the world non stop and non refueling, they were not the first to try. Our May meeting will be presented by Hugh who was the foreman on the building of an airplane designed and built for that task in 1967/68. As part of the continuing effort by NAV CANADA to conform with international best practices, procedures have been implemented to adopt the ICAO-recommended phraseology "LINE UP" or "LINE UP AND WAIT" when controllers instruct an aircraft to enter the runway intended for take off. This change took place in April, 2008, with advanced notice published as Aeronautical Information Circular 9/08, which is available on the NAV CANADA website. Open Cockpit DaysWho: The Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum What: an Open Cockpit Day with the C-119 "Flying Boxcar" troop transport aircraft of the Korean and Vietnam Wars The C-119 "Flying Boxcar was extenively used during the Korean and Vietnam Wars to transport troops for the US Army and US Marine Corps. Some models were modified to serve as gunships to support troops on the ground. The C-119 was used by many nations around the world. The taking of photos is permitted and encouraged. Where: at the Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum located on the grounds of the Pueblo Memorial Airport (PUB). The museum is located 6 miles east of Pueblo Colorado on US Highway 96/US Highway 50 East. When: 17 May 2008 from 10 AM to 4 PM. Cost: $6 for persons aged 10 years of age and over. Active duty military and reservists admitted free with valid military ID. There is no additional cost to sit in the cockpit of the aircraft.
