August Meeting Minutes
Respectfully Submitted by Jeff Dinius, Secretary
The meeting was called to order by Mike Bond at 6:30. The early start was to allow time for our guest speaker to return to Denver after her presentation.
Visitors:
Baren Bushman is looking to build something…again. He had a Breezy in the past and wants something a little more enclosed for use in Colorado. The Titan Tornado is what he is currently considering.
Treasurer’s report:
Ernie Stevens gave the report. For details, please contact Ernie.
Young Eagles:
Lesley put a hold on contacting people for the September Event due to some questions about the dates. The new dates are the event held on the 15th of September with the weather date as the 16th.
Lesley is also looking at building a database of pilots and ground crew. She has sent out an email request and passed around a form at the meeting.
Announcements:
Mike bought a new toy that includes XM weather. He is more than willing to demo.
Stevens asked about a Vagabond project that was mentioned at the last meeting. Bill Arnold may have some info. If anyone else has details, contact Ernie.
Bill Hull is interested in the Flight Counselor position. Bill is home bound so anyone seeking help would be required to work remotely or visit Bill’s home. It was agreed Bill had a wealth of knowledge and would be worth the effort to contact him before the first flights of any new aircraft.
- Reminder of the radial engine fly-in at Akron airport on September 8th. .
New Business:
Mike asked about how much to provide guest speakers. The current value is $25. The suggestion was to provide multiple for people traveling long distances or that were not members of the club. All agreed this was appropriate as these people volunteer their time and gas to entertain and enlighten us.
Trip Report:
Hugh Beckham, Dave Biesemeier, and Mike Bond provided their impressions of Oshkosh 2007. Hugh led the report. There was not really anything new or exciting in the way of aircraft. Hugh was impressed with the IR vision stuff. Hugh also spent some time with the Sonex group only to find they had been “invited” to show something special…anything special. Seems Sonex had put an electric motor on the nose of an airplane so that became a big splash. Suddenly Sonex was in the “Electric airplane research” business.
A Message from Tom Poberezny
Now is the time for a major grassroots action in our campaign to
defeat user fees! EAA needs your direct attention and support! Share the
information below with your chapter or squadron members, fellow
aviators, friends, neighbors, CAP, flying clubs, and other airport tenants.
EAA’s ability to rally aviation enthusiasts to defend and promote
personal flight has been a direct result of the strength within our
chapter, squadron, affiliate, division, council and volunteer support
networks. Since the organization’s founding in 1953, the success of
EAA’s advocacy work has depended on not only effective representation by
EAA staff but also members’ dedicated grassroots efforts in their local
communities.
Now is the Time to Act – We face a very narrow time frame to let
our congressional leaders know that the creation of users fees on
general aviation operations will directly affect the national economy
and the operations of all general aviation aircraft. It is critical
your “NO USER FEE” message is in your elected leaders hands when they
return to Washington on September 7th .
This is a critical grassroots effort. EAA supports House Bill 2881
(no user fees), and objects to the user fee sections of Senate Bill
1300. We must mobilize as many supporters, and urge each one to
participate in this campaign. The number of voices speaking out against
user fees will largely determine our success.
Accordingly, I am asking for your help with this grassroots efforts,
use this additional information to assist you in this critical
effort. Working together,
we can prevent user fees from being implemented.
Tom Poberezny
EAA President
