June Meeting Minutes
Respectfully Submitted by Jeff Dinius, Secretary

The meeting was called to order by Mike Bond

Visitor: Bob Barnes is a new pilot and EAA member for one year. He thought about building an airplane so decided to contact the local chapter.

Treasurer’s report: Ernie Stevens gave the treasurer’s report and it was approved. If any member would like more details they are available upon request.

Young Eagles: Bill Cherry suggested a YE program at the FNL open house. Mike Bond and Tom Barlow will both be gone so there are no plans for a formal YE flying event.

Announcements:

  • FNL open house on July 4th. EAA may have a booth and some home builts on display. May be a good opportunity to hand out YE certificates. This would provide a head count for an event a couple weeks later.

  • The Ft. Collins Modeleer’s RC model airplane club is holding an airshow at the old Ft. Collins down town airport (3V5). The airport is closed to full scale traffic but the model club has permission to use the runway. More info is available at: www.modeleers.org

  • Mike Bond had old Flying magazines free for the taking.

  • Mike also brought a couple sets of Aircraft Trading Cards (ATC.com). These are new trading cards with different aircraft pictures and statistics.

  • A web site was mentioned for those wanting some place to fly their aircraft. Funplacestofly.com.

  • The proposed “User’s fees” was brought up with a request to contact your congressman. There is a lot of info on the web (EAA and AOPA both have opinions and discussions on their web sites). Learn about this push for alternate funding of the FAA. Mike Bond has the local congressmen’s addresses. AOPA web site has a form letter if you are not up to writing one on your own. Make sure to contact Salizar as he is on one of the committees.

Fax is the most effective with an email and USPS mail as follow up methods.

Old Business:

  • Tools the chapter can buy

    • The general consensus was to concentrate on a projector first. The decision was made to purchase the Sharp listed on the committee’s suggestion list.

    • The second decision was to focus on tools useful during inspections. This is something every owner needs every year but does not really need to own personally. The building tools were pretty well determined to be something a builder would need for longer than to borrow from the chapter.

Mike is the keeper of the list as to who has tools. A special “member’s” area on the yahoo group is being considered for this list.

  • Additional info for the Yahoo group area is contact info on the membership. This area will be secured with a password for members only.

New Business:

  • The Javelin Group will be providing the program for the August meeting.

  • Programs are still needed for the October and December meetings.

  • Dave Biesemeier has agreed to be the Technical Counselor for the chapter.

  • An announcement of another person passing away was made. The surviving spouse wants to sell all the accumulated tools, parts, etc.

  • Lesley Thompson has offered to be the Young Eagles Coordinator. Lesley teaches classes for the CAP and feels the YE is a natural extension. The chapter offered to buy her membership for the national EAA and wave the fee for the local chapter.

  • Dale has some tables  and chairs stored at his hanger and will provide to chapter members for use.

  • Reminder of the Stearman Fly-in in Nebraska.

  • Also a reminder of the Jeffco (Rocky Mountain Metropolitan) open house. During the same time, Sparky Imerson will be speaking at Jeffco. For more info on Sparky’s talk go to FAAST.gov.

Meeting adjourned.
