May Meeting Minutes
Respectfully Submitted by Jeff Dinius, Secretary

The meeting was called to order by Dave Nabors

Visitor: Paul McCoy

Announcements:

  • Ted Cross passed away suddenly. He was building an RV9A that has been moved into storage at his home. It is felt it will be put up for sale. The wings are complete and the fuselage is in progress. If you wish to know more details, Bill Arnold is the best contact.

  • A Piper Vagabond is for sale. This was an early Piper 2 place side by side design. Contact a chapter officer for more details.

Old Business:

Young Eagles Day Report, by Tom Barlow

Twelve new Young Eagles were added to the big log book in Oshkosh.

Pilots:
  • Dave Nabors
  • Mike Bond
  • Mel Callen
  • Tom Barlow

Ground Crew:
  • Randy Treadwell
  • Dennis Mitchel
  • John Masslich
  • John Szantho
  • Dale Matuska (Dale also provided adults with rides in the YAK 52)

New Business:

  • There is a request for static display aircraft for the FNL open house on July 4th. This is an opportunity to be in good company as there is a B-24 and B-17 scheduled to attend. A suggestion for a booth and a couple special aircraft be displayed during the event.

  • The ATG Javelin program that was scheduled earlier but had to cancel is now rescheduled for the August meeting.

  • The August meeting is still available for someone that has a good summer time program.

Program: Hugh Beckham introduced Wes Te Winkle. Wes is an International Aviation Consultant. As such, Wes helps countries and/or businesses meet the regulations set forth by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). This group is part of the United Nations and is responsible for civil aviation throughout the world. Wes began his flying career with the US government as a military pilot and then moved to the airlines until the age 60 rule stopped him from flying commercially. Wes then became associated with the ICAO and helping other countries and airlines meet the international requirements.

If you ever wondered if foreign airlines were safe, the ICAO and the FAA have lists that can help you decide.

Aircraft Trading Cards Have Returned

Do you remember the Wings series of aircraft cards published by Topps in the 1950's? The new ones are better. They have great photos of many types of aircraft that kids are likely to see at a local airport, museum or air show, such as jets, WWII, singles, twins, antiques, homebuilts, and so on. 88 airplanes in all.

If you didn't see them on AVweb or at Sun-n-Fun this year, you take a look at them online at: www.AlphaTangoCharlie.com

They are published by a pilot living in Brighton, Michigan who was inspired by a 6-year old after a Young Eagles flight. The aircraft trading cards are specifically designed to get kids interested and involved in aviation. Each pack contains 11 cards - eight aircraft cards, two trivia cards and one aviation fact card, and are $3 per pack... cheaper and more practical than Pok-e-mon cards.

Mike hopes to have some to show at the next meeting.
