Minutes: EAA Chapter meeting help on Sept. 5th, 2006
The meeting was called to order by Tom Barlow at Randy Treadwell’s work shop
.
Visitors were welcomed:
Umair Ahmed was our only visitor. He had recently moved from Virginia and was very interested in the chapter.

Ernie was not in attendance so a treasure’s report was not available.

There was no Young Eagles activity this past month and nothing is currently planned. There is currently not a Young Eagles coordinator so if someone feels they would like to pick up the task, it would be much appreciated.

Announcements:
Jim Nabors Kitfox has experienced its first flight. Jim contacted Tom and was very excited. Those that have experienced a first flight know the feeling and those that have not, can only imagine. Congratulate Jim when you see him.

Jerrold Jorritsma has all the paper work complete for his jet Berkut but he experienced a compressor stall during a test so he needs to explore a way to get more air into the compressor. He is contemplating some top side ducting.

We are in need of an October program Mike Bond is looking at a possibility. If you have an idea, please contact Tom Barlow.

The Boulder Unicom is changing frequency to 122.725. This change should be effective the first of October. The change should eliminate some of the clutter heard in the local area.

Dale Matuska picked up his Yak this past week. His description of the experience was interesting. Seems the Russians tried very hard to make it difficult for their airmen to use the Yak as a transport out of the country. The aircraft has limited range and also has a special feature of setting the ADF frequencies outside the aircraft after the pilots were already aboard. Dale has offered to allow people to inspect the aircraft when he is at the airport. Stop by and ask Dale about his new acquisition.

Old Business:
The nominating committee did not have a progress report but promised one for next meeting. When the committee contacts you, consider the possibility of serving as an officer. This is your chapter and without members to fill the positions, the chapter will cease to exist.

New Business:
There was no new business to discuss.

Program:
The mosquitoes were hungry so we jumped into the program for the evening so we could provide moving targets for the blood thirsty creatures.

First up was Joe Copley with a show and tell on the Stinson he is restoring. The aircraft is a 1948 Stinson 108-3 Voyager. This is commonly referred to as the big tail Stinson. Joe has the aircraft covered and is in the finishing process. He hopes to have the aircraft flying this year. He began the project in 2000.

The second part of the program was presented by Randy Treadwell. Randy focused on his experience with composites. Randy demonstrated a fast curing compound. He created a couple medallions out of the material. The material cured during his presentation. Randy has a lot of composite experience and explained and provided samples of several moulds as well as the finished parts.

Follow-up to Joe's Stinson Project -

You have all seen this paint job before on something else. Can you place it??

Program for October - Aircraft Interiors by Mike Easley

3V5 (Down Town Fort Collins) -

The Down Town Pilots Association and other interested parties met Tues. the 8th. A lot was talked about in the meeting and Wellington was one of the items. The major issue was how in file an injunction to stop the closing of the airport on the Aug. 31 date. The association will be moving forward with this action. Membership in the association is open and fund raising projects will be undertaken.

Wellington Airport -

The city council voted to fund an airport study for an airport north west of wellington. The FAA has given this project a green light and CDOT will fund most of the study. 10-12 pilots were at the meeting and helped the board understand what they are about to undertake. I offered the EAA515 as a resource for planning and ideas.
