Fort Collins
Downtown Pilots Association
Update on 3V5
A newly formed Fort Collins Downtown Pilot Association has been organized
to provide a vehicle to tell our story and help keep 3V5 open and a viable
airport.
An
option to purchase the airport was sold to Lloyd Goff, a developer who
proposes to develop the property into commercial and multi-unit housing.
The closing date is June 11, 2006. To be able to move forward and close
on the property the developer must first complete one important step;
he must have this property annexed into the City of Fort Collins.
The
proposal to annex is now before the Fort Collins City Council and will
be addressed at the regular council meeting on March 21, 2006 held in
Council Chambers at City Hall West, 300 Laporte Ave. Fort Collins... Starts
at 6 PM. The initial reading on the annexation was made at the February
7 meeting. The pilot’s association along with the FNL pilots association
and other businesses attended and voiced their opposition.
We
were pleased with the result of these efforts and the council’s
comments following the meeting. We believe the council will look closely
into this matter and into the impact of closing the airport on the community.
We
invite you to join us and attend the March 21 city council meeting as
a show of support. We are calling on all area pilots to come out in full
force and attend. Mass numbers make impressions.
Airports
are vital to us all; if we lose 3V5, aviation in this area will never
be the same.
Please
join us. Your presence at this key meeting could make the difference.

Hangers
at Fort Collins • Loveland - Bill
Cherry
Hangar
breakthrough at FNL - "If you snooze, you lose!"
The cities have finally opened a significant area for the building of
hangars and have asked the FNL Pilot's Association to assist in the formation
of one or more condominium associations that would lease ground from the
cities for hangar development at FNL. As a first step, we need to determine
the number of parties that want to build or rent hangars and set a meeting
date to get all interested parties
together.
The purpose of this meeting
will be to:
- Confirm the number of hangars
to be built, by type.
- Confirm the number of people
who want to rent hangars.
- Explain the area that is
open to hangar development at FNL.
- Discuss the formation of
one or more condominium
associations that would undertake the project of building hangars for
personal ownership or rental.
- Establish the framework
for the election of officers and
operating agreements for the condominium associations to be formed.
- Introduce the many steps
that would need to be undertaken by
a condominium association--including establishment of building standards,
suggested lease revisions, obtaining bids from builders plus much, much
more--for negotiation with the cities.
The formation of one or more
condominium associations provides the opportunity for all of you to benefit
from collective bargaining with the cities on an improved lease and to
negotiate for volume discounts from builders. This is an unusual opportunity
to own or rent a hangar at a lower cost than if a developer were to build,
sell or rent hangars. In order to be part of this one time opportunity,
you must reply. Please type in the information asked for on the lines
below. In
addition, you are encouraged to fill out, sign, and date the airport form,
located at http://fnlpilots.org/Documents/FNL_Mailing_Oct272005.pdf ,
then mail it to the Airport Manager (address on the form). You can fill
the form out at a meeting later, but right now he keeps the official master
priority list! Once we have all the responses, we will send out a separate
communication with the proposed date, time and location of the FIRST MEETING
along with a draft agenda. The FNL Pilot's Association is doing our best
to get the ball rolling on this, but it will be up to the combined stakeholders
to move this project forward. You can also email the information below
to us and we will get it into the master list.
Please email to: hangars@fnlpilots.org
